Corey Harris joined the Boston Public Schools on July 1 as Chief of Accountability, overseeing the offices of Data and Accountability, Turnaround and Transformation, and Community Hub Schools, to lead strategies for ensuring continuous improvement of all schools.
Most recently, Harris served as the Director of Middle Schools in the Des Moines, Iowa, public schools. His 24-year career began as a seventh-grade English teacher in Memphis. His passion for school reform and desire to have high-quality schools in every community has led to him being a school administrator in seven states: Tennessee, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Texas, Iowa, and now, Massachusetts.
Harris is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was raised as the youngest of five children. He is the father of a 22-year-old daughter who recently graduated from Mississippi State University, and enjoys reading, golfing, exercising, traveling and engaging in community service — while watching very little television. Harris holds a master’s degree in Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Memphis, and a bachelor of arts degree in English Education from Rust College in Mississippi.
