Jynai McDonald has been appointed director of Family Childcare at SEIU Local 509.
McDonald is a life-long resident of Springfield and graduate of Bay Path University. She served on the City of Springfield’s community-police relations steering committee, MGM Springfield’s Diversity Task Force. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Valley Eye Radio, Young Women’s Initiative Steering Committee, is a member of the Western Mass chapter of Neighbor to Neighbor (an organization that mobilizes people in their community to confront local, state, and national crisis), is the Community Calendar Editor for the African-American Point of View News Magazine and is a Business West 40 Under 40 Honoree for Class of 2019. Jynai has been a political activist for over 5 years and has over 10 years of experience working with the at-risk population, connecting them to education and sustainable employment services, promoting public awareness initiatives and social engagement issues, and has demonstrated negotiation and relationship building skills.
SEIU Local 509 represents nearly 20,000 human service workers and educators throughout Massachusetts. The local provides a variety of social services to elders, at-risk children and people with mental illnesses or developmental disabilities — as well as educational services in both public and private sector settings.
