BOSTON, June 30, 2015 — After meeting for the first time at the May 30 hackathon for CityStart Boston, less than a month later nine teams pitched their ideas at the final CityStart Pitch Night held at the Fairmount Innovation Lab last week. The top teams split $5000 in cash and will receive software from Constant Contact, Microsoft and Splitzee, services from Fresh Tilled Soil, consultations with DesignG Architects, and workspace from Workbar and TechHub. TechForUs was named the top team with MyBlock and BloxYard as runners up. FindLocal was named the Audience Choice.
“CityStart was a great opportunity for the innovation community from across Boston to come together and form partnerships,” said Rory Cuddyer, Startup Manager for the City of Boston. “I’m hopeful that the ventures formed over the past month will be successful in expanding innovation and entrepreneurship into every neighborhood of Boston.”
After a month of twice weekly workshops, team meetings and a mentor night, the CityStart Boston teams made their final pitches to an audience of potential investors, partners and supporters.
The judges were: Constant Contact’s Alec Stern, Microsoft New England’s Julie Bennett, Boston University’s Greg Stoller, the City of Boston’s Brian Goodman, and Bithiah Carter from New England Blacks in Philanthropy.
CityStart Boston was a month long event focused on extending Boston’s innovation economy across the entire city, beyond the City’s Innovation District and the other areas where startups and entrepreneurs cluster. The coalition steering this year’s event includes representatives from: The Capital Network, The City of Boston, Constant Contact®, Inc., District Hall, Mass Innovation Nights, MassChallenge, Microsoft, Splitzee, Startup Institute, and Wentworth Institute of Technology.
