The Community Builders, Inc. (TCB) is one of the leading nonprofit developers of mixed-income housing in the United States. Our mission is to build and sustain strong communities where people of all incomes can achieve their full potential. We realize our mission by developing, financing and operating high-quality housing and implementing neighborhood self-help initiatives to drive economic opportunity for our residents. Since 1964, we have constructed or preserved more than 320 affordable and mixed-income housing developments and secured more than $2.5 billion in project financing from public and private sources. Today, we own or manage more than 10,000 apartments in 14 states and Washington, D.C. We are headquartered in Boston with regional hubs in Chicago and Washington. Due to anticipated growth and ongoing needs, we are searching for a Public Relations Manager to join our team.

Position Description:

The Community Builders, Inc. is looking for a Public Relations Manager who is passionate about neighborhoods and has experience engaging the media, the public and employees. The Public Relations Manager works to promote The Community Builders and its residential developments in 14 states and Washington, D.C.

The Public Relations Manager works with the Director of Communications to pitch stories to local media in the markets where we operate, as well as trade and national media. The manager creates press materials, as well as content for external and internal company publications, including newsletters and digital platforms. The Public Relations Manager also supports media and community relations events at TCB sites. The position requires 5 percent travel.

Essential Functions:

  • Contribute to a communication strategy that builds awareness and understanding about TCB’s mission and operations.
  • Prepare communications for external media, such as press releases, holding statements, bylined articles and Q&As.
  • Maintain media lists for key TCB markets and foster relationships with local and trade reporters.
  • Develop editorial calendars and content for internal and external company newsletters and digital platforms.
  • Assist with media and community relations events, coordinating with outside vendors and agencies as needed.
  • Build productive working relationships with development, property management and community life operational staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, including Word and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency in The Associated Press writing style
  • Proficiency in social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
  • Strong event coordination skills

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Public Relations/Communications Degree preferred
  • 5-7 years in Media or Public Relations
  • Community Development and/or Real Estate experience preferred
