DIRECTOR OF PURCHASING – Purchasing Department

The mission of the Purchasing Department is to continually identify and incorporate innovative purchasing practices that will support the Tufts University teaching, research and service efforts while maximizing university resources. The Purchasing Department strives to:

*Procure all equipment, supplies and services, consistent with the quality, quantity, and delivery of alternative products.

*Assist faculty and staff by providing product information, locating sources of supply, and explaining procurement options.

The Director of Purchasing supports the Vice President for Finance and Treasurer in all aspects of managing the university’s procurement activities, development and implementation of university policy and procedure, scrutinizing and accepting vendor bids and proposals, selecting sources based upon analysis, arranging vendor contracts, bargaining for best cost, observing quality of purchased materials and preparing reports and required documents. The Director is responsible for the management, supervision, professional development and directions of all Purchasing professional and support staff.

Basic Requirements:

*Bachelor’s degree

*10+ years of related experience

*Proficiency in use of MS Office Suite software. Ability to learn and use new technology tools

*Must possess progressive managerial experience and the ability to lead a high functioning team.

*The finalist for this position must successfully complete all appropriate background checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

*The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least ten years of progressive management experience. Certified Purchasing Manager a plus.
