Director of Communications

The Pike School is an independent, coeducational day school located on 35 woodland acres in Andover, Massachusetts. Its comprehensive and sequential program provides education to students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 9. Small class size and individual attention allow for social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of the students within the context of the school community. The Pike School history extends back to 1926 when Cynthia E. Pike started educating six students in her home; Pike now has more than 2,000 alumni. The Pike School motto is Non sibi solum – Not for oneself alone. Pike seeks candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to collaboration and lifelong learning as well as a dedication to working in a diverse community.

Primary function: Develop the overall marketing, communications, and public relations strategy for The Pike School. The Director of Communications is responsible for communicating Pike’s unique attributes and accomplishments with external and internal constituents through the news media, letters, print publications, photography, video, and the Pike Web site.

Position: Full time with some evenings, weekends, and early morning hours necessary.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Design annual communications plan that targets key audiences. Develop overall message and ensure implementation in all communications mediums.

Oversee creation and production of all Pike publications to market the School.

  • Internal publications
  • e-publications

Create advertising plan and develop relationships with local and regional media to advertise news stories. Develop compelling stories about Pike students and faculty. Coordinate production and placement of Pike’s ads in newspapers, magazines, radio, and online.

Manage Pike’s social media outlets including, but not limited to, the website, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn, blogs, etc.

  • Maintain and develop new content for the website using graphic design and Web development software

Serve as key contact for Pike public relations.

Partner with the Advancement, Admissions, Parents’ Association, and Division Heads, as well as other key constituents in the School, to support all marketing and communication efforts.

Serve as school photographer when professional photographer is not in use.

Skills/Qualifications:

Self-starter with superior strategic thinking and interpersonal skills. Flexible, creative, highly organized, individual who is able to collaborate well with multiple departments at all levels in the organization. Excellent writing, design, and photography skills. Knowledge and experience with print production process is helpful. Website development experience and knowledge of Photoshop, InDesign, or similar software are preferred. Experience working with education issues and third-party relationship building preferred.

Requirements:

BA/BS required; 3-5 years of work experience in marketing, graphic design, public relations, or related field required. Advance degree preferred.
