Forry edges a win in First Suffolk Senate primary

Max Cyril

In a surprisingly tight race, Linda Dorcena Forry eked out a narrow victory in three three-way race for the vacant First Suffolk Senate District seat.

Forry, making a bid to become the first Haitian American to serve in the state senate, earned 10,214 votes or 47 percent of the total 21,730 votes cast in the district that encompasses Dorchester, Mattapan, Hyde Park. Her main opponent, State Rep. Nick Collins, came in second with 9,836 votes, a margin of a mere 378 votes. Finishing last with 1,593 votes was South Boston native Maureen Dahill.

As it stands now, Forry would face Joe Ureneck who won the Republican primary with 829 votes.

Despite the unofficial vote tally declaring Forry the winner, Collins has not conceded the race as yet, triggering the possibility of a recount.
