Dion Irish
Mayor Thomas M. Menino recently appointed Dion Irish as executive director of the city’s Fair Housing Commission, which works to eliminate discrimination and increase access to housing in Boston.
“I am confident in Dion,” Mayor Menino said. “He has the knowledge and skills to ensure that the mission of the Fair Housing Commission is met and to work with our partner agencies to further the overall housing goals of the city.”
Irish has worked for the city for 17 years and has served as assistant commissioner for housing for Boston’s Inspectional Services Department for the past 11 years. He has also served as a housing inspector, community liaison, director of Constituent Services, and assistant director of Housing Inspections.
Irish also sits on the executive committee of the Massachusetts Health Officers Association (MHOA), and the steering committee for the Boston Healthy Homes and Schools Collaborative.
“There is no room for housing discrimination in this city,” Irish said. “I am proud to get the chance to stand up for equitable housing for the people of Boston.”
Irish was raised in Dorchester and continues to reside there. He received a master’s degree in Urban Affairs and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Boston University.
