President Barack Obama has appointed Ellen Semonoff, vice chair of Cambridge Health Alliance’s Board of Trustees and assistant city manager for Human Services for the City of Cambridge, to his Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health.
Founded as an executive order as part of federal health care reform legislation last year, the Advisory Group will help identify the most pressing national health issues and advise on developing prevention and wellness programs to confront them.
Semonoff has served the City of Cambridge for nearly 20 years, providing leadership and management for all of the city’s child care, community, fuel assistance, nutrition, recreation, senior, substance abuse, work force development and youth programs. She has held a position on Cambridge Health Alliance’s Board of Trustees since 1996.
Previously, Semonoff served as a special assistant to the U.S. Secretary of Health, Education, and Welfare during the Carter administration and as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall.
Semonoff is seen here with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin and U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Dr. Howard K. Koh.
