Harvard Street Community Health Center recently announced that Ambassador Charles R. Stith,  director of the African Presidential Archives and Research Center at Boston University, and his wife, Dr. Deborah Prothrow Stith, former State Public Health Commissioner and a nationally acclaimed expert on youth violence, will be the guests of honor at the Center’s Exceptional Leaders Award Ceremony on Friday at the Seaport Hotel.

Harvard Street CEO Dr. Chidi Achebe calls the Stiths “true leaders whose commitment to the health and well-being of our communities has been a constant beacon of light for our city and the nation.”

Awardees include Mayor Thomas M. Menino for his authorship of the City’s Health Care Disparities Act; state Rep. Gloria Fox for making legislative and funding support for health care centers a priority; James Hunt Jr., whose stewardship of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers has kept them viable community resources; Sister Virginia Morrison for her leadership in the development of the Mecca Mall in Grove Hall; and Alba Alvarez Cote whose foundation teaches financial health to low income and minority communities.

Also receiving awards are Frank Doyle and Dr. Nicole Prudhomme.
