It was an all-star line-up of Patriots at the 2nd Annual “Mayo Bowl” charity bowling tournament at Kings Dedham, Legacy Place. In the house I spied the man of the night, Jerod Mayo, along with teammates Deion Branch, Vince Wilfork, Chad Ochocinco, Albert Haynesworth, Matt Light and Stephen Gostkowski.
Also lending their support to the charity was former Pats Troy Brown, WZLX morning radio personalities Kevin Karlson, Pete McKenzie and Heather Ford, WBZ-TV’s Steve Burton and National Amusement’s Kevin Mitchell. Adding to the party vibe was DJ Ron Furr. The event raised more than $100,000 for Pitching in for Kids, Inc., whose mission is dedicated to providing specifically earmarked grants that will improve the lives of children across New England. You can’t beat that!
Enrique Iglesias
Pitbull was a no-show, but it didn’t matter because Enrique Iglesias put on a sizzling and muy caliente show for the sold-out crowd of tweens, teens, adults and cougars alike at the TD Garden. I admit I can’t really distinguish his songs except for the ballad, “Hero,” but it really didn’t matter. The night was about music, dancing and having fun, plus it doesn’t hurt that Enrique is so darn cute, even with his baseball cap on. Anna Kournikova, you’re one lucky lady!
Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival
Despite the forecast of rain and the humidity, the last day of the festival went off without a hitch. It was a day filled with food, families and music, and also seeing old friends. As I was leaving the fest, I could hear the faint sounds of Oleta Adams singing “Get Here” in the background. What a great way to end the day!
Red Lantern
Red Lantern describes itself as a “sophisticated, sensual and tailored Asian Restaurant and Lounge” and I couldn’t agree more. Where do I begin? You enter the restaurant through the 20-foot Asian ceremonial black-lacquered doors into the foyer, which then leads you into the bar area on the left and the dining area opens up to the right, with a sushi bar in the back.
It’s both intimate and inviting. I walked in and I was immediately captivated by the rich and bold red accents throughout the lounge, coupled with the soft lighting, great music and beautiful people. I swear I haven’t seen this many attractive people in one spot in the city. They must have shipped them in!
The cuisine is traditional Chinese food with a twist from the lobster rangoon to the shumai and assorted rice dishes to the bubble tea and hot “sakitinis,” and it all works. It’s a great place to meet up with friends after work or a night on the town. I’ll definitely be back! There’s so much more to explore!
