Heavy favorite Tito Jackson easily beat Cornell Mills in the District 7 city council race to replace the ousted Chuck Turner.
A former aide to Gov. Deval Patrick and son of a community activist, Jackson earned 82 percent of the vote. Mills, the son of former state senator Dianne Wilkerson, could only pull 556 votes while Jackson earned 2,829. Less than 3,500 people voted in the special election; more than 30,000 people are on the active voting rolls.
The special election was called after Chuck Turner was convicted of accepting a bribe and lying to federal agents last year in a government corruption scandal that also saw Wilkerson plead guilty. Wilkerson began serving her three-year sentence last week. Turner is expected to surrender on March 25.
