Edward M. Powell
Edward M. Powell has been named executive director of StreetSafe Boston, a multi-year initiative created by the Boston Foundation to work with youth in Boston’s most violence-afflicted neighborhoods.
Mr. Powell comes to StreetSafe Boston from the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC), a public-private partnership that connects Boston Public Schools students and other Boston-area young people with employment opportunities. At the PIC, Mr. Powell served as deputy director with responsibilities for the organization’s legislative strategies.
Earlier in his career, he was director of the PIC’s school-to-career program. He also worked as a career specialist at Charlestown High School, where he helped to place hundreds of students in summer jobs.
“I know from experience that success happens for young people when preparation meets opportunity,” said Mr. Powell at a Feb. 15 event at the Boston Foundation. “I am deeply committed to building a circle of caring adults that will help these young people become law-abiding, self-sufficient adults.”
StreetSafe Boston’s mission is to dramatically reduce gun violence by working directly with known violent offenders in the most affected neighborhoods.
“Ed is the right person for the right job at the right time,” said Boston Foundation President and CEO Paul S. Grogan.
