Ralph Martin
Former Suffolk District Attorney Ralph Martin has been named to a top post at Northeastern University.
The school announced last week that Martin had accepted a job as senior vice president and general counsel at Northeastern.
Martin served as the district attorney in Suffolk County from 1992 to 2002. He’s now managing partner of the Boston law firm Bingham McCutchen LLC.
Northeastern President Joseph Aoun said Martin will manage a broad range of legal issues that typically come before a major research university. He will also oversee university priorities such as community affairs, master planning, compliance and risk management and the Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity.
“Ralph Martin brings a unique and powerful combination of strengths to Northeastern,” Aoun said. “He has a penetrating legal mind, experience as a leader and a commitment to civic engagement.”
Martin received a bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University and received his law degree from Northeastern in 1978.
“Northeastern represents many of the ideals I have spent a lifetime promoting: education, civic engagement and leadership,” Martin said. “As a longtime member of the Northeastern community, I have watched the university transform itself from a local institution into a global enterprise. I look forward to working with President Aoun and the senior leadership team to take Northeastern to even greater heights.”
