Charles R. Stith
Former Ambassador Charles R. Stith, director of the African Presidential Archives and Research Center at Boston University, has been appointed to the Trade Advisory Committee on Africa (TACA). TACA provides trade and development policy advice for the countries of sub-Saharan Africa and is headed by U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk.
In appointing Stith to the committee, Kirk said, “Your membership and contribution of your expertise to the TACA is important to the Obama Administration as we craft a trade agenda that will help stimulate new opportunities for growth in U.S.-Africa trade.”
The committee advises the U.S. Trade Representative on a range of trade related issues, from development policy to U.S. strategies to compete with China in Africa.
Stith is the former U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania during the Clinton Administration. In addition to his responsibilities with APARC, he holds a faculty appointment in the International Relations Department at Boston University and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the author of “For Such a Time as This: African Leadership Challenges” (APARC Press, 2008) and “Political Religion” (Abingdon Press, 1995), and is Senior Editor of the “African Leader’s State of Africa Report.”
