Constance Pizarro
Constance Pizarro of Somerset, N.J., has taken on the leadership of the North Atlantic Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA), an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African American college women.
Installed at the AKA international conference earlier this month, Pizarro is responsible for overseeing the operations of more than 130 graduate and undergraduate chapters in the North Atlantic region as members implement the organization’s program — Global Leadership Through Timeless Service — as outlined by the newly installed international president Carolyn House Stewart, Esq.
Pizarro, a graduate of Hofstra University, is managing director, quality assurance manager for the Financial Markets and Treasury Services Technology Division of Bank of New York Mellon.
She has served AKA for more than 25 years, including as a chapter president and graduate adviser to the undergraduates at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. Most recently, she was a member of the International Membership Committee that established stringent guidelines for the intake of women into the sorority.
The North Atlantic region comprises more than 8,000 financially active women in New England, eastern New York, eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. The sorority has initiated more than 250,000 members.
