RoxComp offers programs for healthy bodies, minds and families

Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center’s (RoxComp) Pediatric/Adolescent Department provides services which ensure the well-being of children from birth to 18 years of age and is currently accepting new patients.

Pediatric and adolescent services offered include: physical examinations, asthma management, well child care, immunizations, health education, lead screening, anemia screening, sickle-cell testing, WIC referrals, hearing testing, nutrition counseling and social work.

There are also a number of specialty services offered, some of which include:

• Pediatric Asthma Education and Management

• Pediatric Dentistry

• Family Protection Services/Victims of Violence program

The Reach Out and Read program stresses the importance of reading, and distributes books to children at routine visits from six months to five years. Through this program, every child is able to build a library of at least 10 books by the time he or she enters kindergarten.

RoxComp also has volunteers who read to children in the waiting room while they wait for their appointments. This entertains the children while they wait, but also provides an activity the parents can adopt at home.

The Kids Heart and Sole Program targets RoxComp pediatric patients ages 7 to 17 who are at or above the 85th percentile of the body mass index (BMI) for their age. The goal is to encourage children who are physically inactive or overweight to increase their weekly physical activity, eat healthier and change some lifestyle behaviors. Kids Heart and Sole also works to improve interpersonal skills, cognitive function, parental/guardian relationships and self esteem.

RoxComp is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and alternate Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call (617) 442-7400.
