Michael James, director of diversity and community relations at Boston Architectural College, received the Humanitarian Award from the Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA) at the association’s annual awards event, held Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the ForeFront Center in Waltham.

In addition to receiving the Humanitarian Award in memory of Cheryl Troy and Craig Wood for his work with NEHRA, James was also recently recognized for his volunteer efforts, which earned him the Rosoff Award for Mentoring. He has also received a citation for diversity leadership from Gov. Deval Patrick.

James is a member of the NEHRA’s Diversity Committee. He originated the association’s diversity AIM Initiative, has served as an advisor to the association’s board on its organizational strategy for diversity and inclusion, has volunteered to facilitate workshops, and  worked as a speaker and organizer for the annual diversity dinner. He has also participated in a number of diversity initiatives across Boston.

The awards breakfast celebrated the work of several outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of human resources, and awarded scholarships to two deserving students. Other award recipients included Charles J. Anderson of Babson College, Samantha Head of Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Sarah Mann of ADP.

Student scholarships were also awarded at the event to Kimberly Records, a junior at Northeastern University, and Carolina Ynguanzo, a sophomore at Bay Path College.
