In the news: Juan Leyton

Juan Leyton has been appointed director of community building at NeighborWorks America, a congressionally chartered nonprofit organization formerly known as the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation that supports community development in the United States and Puerto Rico.

Leyton has extensive experience in community organizing, advocacy and leadership development. He previously served as executive director of the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), where he worked in the implementation of a major community planning process to increase affordable housing, arts space and the expansion of the community land-trusts. His past work experience includes working for the Local Enterprise Assistance Fund, MIT Community Innovators Lab (CoLab) and the Solidago Foundation. He also served as the director of Neighbor to Neighbor Massachusetts and City Life/ Vida Urbana in Boston. He was a Barr Foundation Fellow and a MIT Mel King Community Fellow. Leyton graduated from UMass-Boston and he holds master’s degrees in Community Economic Development from Southern New Hampshire University and in Public Policy from Tufts University.

NeighborWorks America provides grants and technical assistance to more than 240 community development organizations and provides training for housing and community development professionals through its national training institutes. Since 2007, NeighborWorks America has administered the Congressionally created National Foreclosure Mitigation Counseling Program.
