ORGANIZATION

The American City Coalition (TACC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing neighborhood revitalization in areas of concentrated poverty. We promote integrated approaches that respond to both place-based and people-based need; we drive public and private resources to work on behalf of low-income residents in underserved neighborhoods. The result is accelerated community transformation and improved quality of life for residents.

TACC’s mission is for urban families to flourish in safe environments and to benefit from the full economic opportunity of American cities.

DESCRIPTION

TACC is looking for an energetic, mission-driven new staff member with a keen sense of social justice and an interest in community revitalization. This associate will work closely with the director on multiple projects related to neighborhood revitalization as well collaborate with consultants assigned to projects.

The following are some of the duties:

  • Provide research support for housing and economic development reports
  • Communicate with relevant institutions at the local, regional and national level to increase the impact of TACC activities
  • Coordinate and strengthen relationships with partner organizations
  • Provide technical assistance to neighborhood organizations in the land acquisition and permitting processes
  • Work with various consultants on projects, ranging from urban planners, financial analysts, architects and economists
  • Research and stay abreast of development trends in the area
  • Promote TACC and partner organizations on social media platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn and blogs
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops
  • Help to expand TACC’s visibility in the planning community through targeted media outreach and sustained media relationship development efforts
  • Contribute to an annual work plan development and five-year planning process
  • Assist TACC staff in development of proposals, presentations and consultant scopes of work
  • Contribute to miscellaneous support tasks as needed

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree and more than one year of professional experience
  • Effective communication skills, whether in person, on the phone, through email, or online
  • Outstanding writing skills with capacity to communicate complex ideas to multiple audiences
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships at all levels with a wide range of community members, local government officials and staff, and professionals within the field
  • Great Internet skills and capable user of Office applications – PowerPoint, Excel and Word, as well MAC OS products
  • Passion for equity and diversity
  • Ease with developing formal electronic and traditional correspondence
  • Strong entrepreneurial orientation, thinks creatively and can work independently
  • Interest in developing a career within the field of community development, economic development or real estate development
  • Proven skills in setting and achieving objectives
  • Strong understanding of social media networking sites (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.)
  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings and travel to regional cities
  • Comfort working with distributed team
  • Capability to see the big picture and simultaneously develop and implement incremental steps that lead to progress
