Brian Chapman, president and owner of the Mill City Environmental Corporation, has been named the 2012 Small Business Administration (SBA) Minority Small Business Person of the Year for the state of Massachusetts and the New England region.

The 2012 SBA Minority Small Business Person of the Year award is presented annually to a minority small business person who is certified in the 8(a) business development program and best exemplifies entrepreneurial success.

Chapman founded the Mill City Environmental Corporation, a waste management and remediation firm that cleans out and prepares property for development, in a converted mill in the city of Lowell more than 10 years ago. The company has grown to employ 25 full-time employees and received the Governor’s Inner City Investment Award in 2003.

Chapman, originally from Lowell, graduated from Lowell High School and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a degree in geology.

He will be honored at the Massachusetts SBA Annual Meeting on Nov. 2, 2012, at the Tip O’Neill Federal Building in Boston.
