Roxbury resident Asia Madison recently received Wheelock College’s “Passion for Action” scholarship, an annual award designed to celebrate positive social entrepreneurship.

Madison is a freshman at Wheelock who plans to double major in early childhood education and psychology and minor in women’s studies. She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Brighton in 2011, where she was a part of Student Council, Club Council, International Club and Drama Club. She also founded the school’s Step Club and worked as a Student Ambassador.

For the past seven years, Madison also has volunteered at Jubilee Christian Church in Mattapan as a Sunday school teacher for children ages four through six years old. She also did volunteer work for City Year Boston, completing more than 100 hours of community service.

Madison was scheduled to receive the award with 17 other “scholars” on Nov. 16 during Wheelock’s Passion for Action Leadership Award Dinner at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.

Wheelock College’s four-year Passion for Action Scholarship Program is given to greater Boston area students who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to community service and involvement. The scholarship is paired with a unique academic program that develops the students’ leadership and community service skills.
