Massachusetts Advocates for Children (MAC) recently announced the appointment of Kim Janey as senior program director of the Boston School Reform Project.

Janey joined MAC in 2001 as a project coordinator and was later promoted to deputy project director. Over the years, she has worked with various community groups to help build an informed constituency pushing for systemic reforms that ensure equity and excellence in education for all children in the Boston Public Schools.

Most recently, Janey has taken the lead in helping to create Boston United for Students, a coalition of more than 35 organizations dedicated to giving a voice to parents, community members, students and business groups in the crucial teachers’ contract negotiations that are underway.

“Kim is extraordinarily competent and committed, and she has provided leadership for a number of years,” said Jerry Mogul, MAC executive director.

Born and raised in Boston, Janey has 20 years of experience in community organizing and child advocacy. Prior to joining MAC, she worked as an organizer for Parents United for Child Care, and before that she facilitated the development of Freedom Schools under the guidance of the Children’s Defense Fund.
