Jamaica Plain resident Carlos Schillaci was recently named executive director for the Hyde/Jackson Square Main Street (HJSMS) initiative.

Since its establishment in 1998, the volunteer-driven, nonprofit Hyde/Jackson Square Main Street initiative has worked to create a safe, vibrant and economically sound business district in Hyde and Jackson squares, which together form a multicultural district that reflects the full diversity of Jamaica Plain and its residents. The coalition is led by local merchants, residents and community organizations, in a public-private collaborative effort with the City of Boston.

As executive director, Schillaci is responsible for coordinating and implementing the initiative’s economic development and neighborhood improvement activities.

Schillaci is a native of Argentina, a former hotel general manager and the owner of CS Media Designs. He brings over 20 years of marketing and operations experience to the position, and said that he is very excited to begin collaborating with local businesses to continue to build and market the district that the initiative refers to as Boston’s Latin Quarter.

“Mr. Schillaci is well prepared to advance the interests of this business district, coordinate community events and assist merchants with advertising and marketing strategies,” said Damaris Pimentel, president of HJSMS’ board of directors, in a statement. “I am looking forward to … working with Carlos for the benefit of our business district known as Boston’s Latin Quarter.”
