<p>A few days after the earthquake struck in Haiti, S. Allen Counter, a Harvard professor and neurophysiologist, organized the first of his two earthquake relief efforts. Through his friendship with Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez Reyna , Counter was able to secure helicopters to transport much-needed medical supplies and about 150-family-sized tents.
