Central Transportation Planning Staff

The Central Transportation Planning Staff (CTPS) of the Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is seeking to fill 2 positions in our Certification Activities Group. A transportation planner/program manager to manage all aspects of the MPO’s Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) and a junior or mid-level transportation planner to support its performance-based planning activities and in the development of the Boston metropolitan region’s Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).

  • A bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) in transportation planning, urban or regional planning, civil engineering, public policy, environmental sciences, economics, or a related field
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills and the ability to effectively communicate to a variety of audiences, including elected officials, technical staff, and the general public
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise management and administrative reports
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
  • Ability to facilitate dialogue among stakeholders
  • Proficiency working with spreadsheets and databases
  • Attention to detail and application of quality-assurance procedures to all products and activities

Previous MPO experience and knowledge of the MPO 3C planning process are desirable. General knowledge and/or interest in urban and city planning, transportation, and environmental issues are preferred. A strong job candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the practices and principles of travel demand modeling, traffic engineering, transit service planning, bicycle and pedestrian planning, and air quality conformity.
