MCCA Neighborhood Art Program to showcase Roxbury and Mattapan Studio Artists

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority will feature artwork from Roxbury and Mattapan artists in its rotating Community Arts Program.

The organization is currently collecting artwork from artists in the neighborhoods and will display it at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from April through July.

Roxbury and Mattapan artists interested in having their work displayed should send their resume, bio and four to six photos to artprogram@massconvention.com by March 15.

The MCCA created the Community Arts Program in 2007 using shared resources from the Boston Mayor’s Office of Art, Culture and Tourism: Open Studios Coalition.

“This call for entries marks a milestone, as we originally kicked-off the program with Roxbury and Mattapan artists,” said James E Rooney, Executive Director of the MCCA. “We have since featured art from all of the neighborhoods of Boston, which is a testament to both the artistic talent prevalent throughout the region, as well as the popularity of the exhibit with guests visiting our facilities.”

Since its debut, the Community Arts Program has featured work from more than 14 different Greater Boston communities and showcased over 700 local artists at the BCEC and Hynes. The MCCA has hosted more than 30 public art receptions and sold more than $65,000 worth of art to visitors, according to a press release from the MCCA.

The MCCA owns and oversees the operations of the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center, the MassMutual Center in Springfield and the Boston Common Parking Garage.
