Boston Local Food Festival – Calling all area food enthusiasts!

Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts is calling all area foodies and health enthusiasts to join in shopping, tasting and learning at the upcoming Boston Local Food Festival.

Local food professionals are taking over the Rose Kennedy Greenway Sunday, Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The food festival will showcase local farmers, restaurants, food trucks, specialty food producers, fisher folks and organizations focused on healthy food and fitness in New England.

The event themed “Healthy Local Food for All” aims to connect all New Englanders with nutritious food choices close to home, a Boston Food Festival press release said.

The festival features live chef and Do-It-Yourself demos, a seafood competition, restaurant dishes for $6 and under, a family fun zone and diverse music and performances.

Festivalgoers will learn about the benefits of sustainable food growth and production, have the opportunity to speak with food growers, take home locally grown produce, enjoy food from local chefs and cookbook authors and participate in other food education activities.

SBN supports building local eco-friendly economies and the Boston Local Food Festival allows the organization to promote the growth and development of local farms and locally owned food-related businesses.

More than 100 vendors and exhibitors participate in the Boston Local Food Festival each year and more than 30,000 people attend, according to bostonlocalfoodfestival.com.

To honor its eco-friendly pledge, SBN has named the festival a zero-waste event where 91 percent of waste is diverted from landfills and 100 percent of its energy use is offset each year, the press release said.
