What’s Hot in the City this week?

This time of the year, the city is abuzz with a host of live performances from concerts and plays to theatre, art and even dining al fresco. Here’s a look at what’s hot in Boston this week!

Thursday, Aug. 1, Scullers Jazz Club presents jazz musician and songwriter Somi for one show at 8 p.m. Tickets: $25 for show and $65 for dinner and show. Go to www.scullersjazz for more information. Beginning Aug. 1 and running through Sunday, Aug. 4, the Boston Opera Collaborative presents: Rossini's Cinderella at the Strand Theatre. A great show for the whole family. To purchase tickets, go to www.bostonoperacollaborative.org.

Mix, mingle and socialize Friday, Aug. 2, at the Museum of Fine Arts First Fridays event beginning at 6 p.m. DJ Denise LaCarubba gets you in the groove for the 60s Dance Party. Also taking place Aug. 2 is the Institute of Contemporary Art’s First Friday: Urban Beach. If hip-hop is your thing, the Comcast Center presents America’s Most Wanted Festival 2013 starring Lil’ Wayne along with T.I. and Tyga Sunday, Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. Tickets available at centermansfield.com. Cavalia’s Odysseo – “an ode to horse and man that marries the equestrian arts and awe inspiring acrobatics” – makes its Northeast premiere on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at the White Big Top at Assembly Square in Somerville. One of the hottest shows returns to Boston! Wicked is back for a limited engagement beginning Wednesday, Aug. 7, and running through Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Boston Opera House.
