USTrendy.com – an Indie Fashion Marketplace for new designers

After graduating college, UsTrendy Founder Sam Sisakhti landed a job in finance.

Four days later, he quit and took a trip to Las Vegas where he reunited with a friend who moved to Los Angeles to pursue a fashion career.

There, he learned of his friend’s struggle and financial hardship breaking into the fashion industry.

The two friends began to brainstorm ways to support independent fashion designers in their pursuit.

From that came Boston-based company UsTrendy.com, a retail-like site that goes beyond providing a platform for designers to sell their clothing.

Starting in September, indie fashion designers across the globe will have the chance to win complete financial support to produce their product.

To enter the voter-based competition, designers must submit one design and a description.

The product will be produced in California and Sisakhti hopes to have the production complete by spring.

Sisakhti said the goal is to provide designers with an outlet that will eliminate distraction and stress and allow the designer to concentrate on creation.

“We’re really excited about the competition and really our goal is to not just provide a place to sell clothes but to help [designers] them make a career,” Sisakhti said.

In the past, UsTrendy has had up to 7,000 designers worldwide participate in the competition, according to Sisakhti.

The retail-like site provides a platform for about 17,000 in 100 countries to showcase and sell their products.

“We’re getting [more than] 1 million visits a month going to the site,” Sisakhti said.

Some designers have been able to make up to $1 million in sales, Sisakthti said.

UsTrendy will also host two other voter-based competitions in September.

Fashion designers can compete to have their worked displayed during Fashion Week in London and another competition limited to college students gives a cash prize.

Competition details will be posted on UsTrendy.com by September.
