Jeanne E. Richardson
Mattapan resident Jeanne E. Richardson recently received the Distinguished Drinking Water Public Involvement Award from the New England Water Works Association (NEWWA). The Holliston, Mass.-based association is the region’s largest, oldest nonprofit organization of water works professionals.
“This award recognizes Jeanne’s outstanding achievements, leadership, commitment and support of professional, proactive public relations,” said NEWWA Executive Director Raymond J. Raposa in a statement.
Richardson is manager of communications for the Boston Water and Sewer Commission, where she handles media relations and publications, and is responsible for developing and managing public education and public outreach programs. She is also a senior instructor at Cambridge College’s School of Psychology and Counseling, where she teaches graduate-level courses in counseling psychology and research.
Richardson holds a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern University, a master’s degree in education from Antioch University and a certificate of advanced graduate study from Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is a licensed certified social worker and has extensive experience in counseling, education, training and public relations.
In addition to serving as chair of NEWWA’s public relations committee, she is also a member of the public education committee of the New England Water Environment Association and an executive committee member of the Water Supply Citizens Advisory Council. Richardson also serves on the public affairs and membership committees for the Newmarket Business Association, and on the executive committee of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.
Richardson is a founding member and second vice president of The Kenya Sistahs, a humanitarian organization that sponsors educational programs and provides financial support to children and families in the African nation of Kenya. She has traveled to Africa on several trips to carry out this mission.
She has two adult children, Renee Smith and Antoinette Boutwell, and eight grandchildren.
