State Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry

State Rep. Linda Dorcena Forry, D-Dorchester, was recently appointed House chairperson of the state Legislature’s Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business. The appointment, announced by House Speaker Robert DeLeo on Feb. 12, became effective immediately.

“I am grateful to Speaker DeLeo for entrusting me with this responsibility,” said Dorcena Forry. “The speaker has made it clear to all of the members that he wants to move quickly on legislation that can help bolster our economy and move the Commonwealth forward. I am delighted to be part of his leadership team.”

“I am proud that Rep. Forry, who has worked so hard over the years on building stronger communities and improving neighborhoods, is part of our leadership team,” DeLeo said. “I look forward to working closely with her as we face the challenging issues confronting the state right now.”

Forry was elected in 2005 to the state House to represent the Twelfth Suffolk District, which includes parts of Dorchester, Hyde Park, Mattapan and Milton. She was re-elected to her third term last November. She previously served as vice-chair of the Committee on Public Service and is the lead sponsor of new legislation aimed at reforming the government’s pension system.

The Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Business reviews all legislation that concerns merchants, the establishment of economic districts and local planning commissions, urban renewal and other such issues.

“Over the past 13 years that I have worked in city and state government, I have seen the positive impact that can be made on communities through focused investment in neighborhoods and business districts,” Forry said.
