Adrienne Thomas was recently appointed the director of development of Children’s Services of Roxbury Inc., a multi-service, nonprofit, minority-owned business with administrative offices in Roxbury that delivers family-centered programs and services to diverse populations throughout Greater Boston.

“We are pleased to welcome Adrienne to the Children’s Services family,” said Pamela Ogletree, executive director of Children’s Services of Roxbury, who called the hiring of a full-time development person “a significant milestone for the agency.”

“Intensifying our development efforts will enable us extend our services beyond the scope of state contracts and enable us to better address the needs of the children, youth, families and adults we serve,” said Ogletree.

Known locally as a proven fundraiser, Thomas’ experience in the development field includes positions in three states over the past eight years, including her most recent post as director of development at Dimock Community Health Center. She was also associate director for grants and foundations at the AIDS Action Committee, and is very active in the development community, serving on the board of directors for the Boston Women’s Fund and the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

In addition, Thomas holds a national position as a governor with the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) and serves as the local board co-chair. She is a member of Women In Development of Greater Boston, New England Blacks in Philanthropy, Sisters In Development, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Thomas is a frequently requested speaker and instructor on issues of importance pertaining to the building of fundraising bases, and the retention of people of color in the development field.

A native of Texas, Thomas received a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Texas Woman’s University and a master’s degree in sociology from Texas Southern University. She is a former Ph.D. student in the sociology program at Northeastern University.
