A 1978 Winston-Salem State alumna, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in urban affairs and economics, Miller was appointed by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors to fill the unexpired term of Gloria Ross Resse, who recently resigned from the board. The term ends June 30, 2009.
In her current position with Citizens Bank, to which she was promoted in 2005, Miller is responsible for overseeing public and community relations, media relations, internal communications, special events, charitable contributions and government affairs for the New England region. She also oversees the bank’s Community Reinvestment Act activities and programs throughout its 13-state footprint.
Based in Boston, Miller has been in the banking field since 1978. Over the years, she has held various positions in mortgage lending and community development. She has been with Citizens since 1993 and was responsible for leading efforts to obtain “Outstanding” CRA ratings from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in 1999 and 2003.
“I am pleased to serve on the Winston-Salem State University Board of Trustees,” said Miller. “Under the leadership of Chancellor Reaves, WSSU continues to make significant contributions to the educational and economic well being of this region.”
An active volunteer, Miller has served on the board of directors of many organizations. She is treasurer of The Family Center, and a member of the advisory board for the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern University.
Miller has received numerous awards in recognition of both her leadership and her work in the community. In 2003, she was named one of New Hampshire’s “Remarkable Women” by New Hampshire magazine. She was also honored with the Susan B. Anthony Award from the Manchester YWCA in 2005.
