Boston University's International Scholarly Conference on "African-American Music in World Culture"
The Boston University African American Studies Program is hosting an international scholarly conference on “African-American Music in World Culture: Art as Refuge and Strength in the Struggle for Freedom” from March 19th to 22nd, 2014. The conference will cover a wide range of topics including The Negro Spiritual, African-American folk songs, Hip Hop – its interdisciplinary nature and universality and African-American music in the civil rights movement among several others. Keynote speakers for the event are Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon, George Wein and Prof. Joshua Rifkin.
