The Assistant Manager for the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center (RLTAC) assists the Manager for the RLTAC and fills in for him/her as required. He/she is responsible for hiring, overseeing and assigning work for all 03 event contractors, weight room attendants, and appropriate staff as needed, to work all sports activities, events and programs. He/she will assist with budgeting. He/she will assist with managing various track & field meets, athletic events, conferences, and other activities as directed by the Manager for the RLTC. He/she is responsible for maintaining an amicable relationship with the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA), the BPS Athletic Directors, the College Athletic Director and staff, and ensuring that the track and field schedule is coordinated with the College's Collegiate events, and is communicated to and adhered to.
He/she is responsible for working with campus security to ensure safety and security procedures are adhered to. He/she will also assist in promoting public awareness and support for Roxbury Community College and the RLTAC. He/she is responsible for adhering to the mission philosophy, and purposes of the College and the RLTC, and ensuring staff follows suit.
Supervision Received: This position reports directly to the Manager for the RLTAC.
Supervision Exercised: He/she provides direct supervision to all 03 event contractors, weight room attendants, and other appropriate personnel at the RLTAC at the direction of the RLTAC Manager.
Examples of Duties (Not intended to be an exhaustive list):
Assume full responsibility for facility operations in the absence of the RLTAC Manager.
Coordinate with the Campus Facilities Manager to ensure there is adequate maintenance staffing, equipment, and supplies for events at the RLTAC.
Ensure compliance with campus security, and administrative policies and procedures, including those specific to the RLTAC are adhered to.
Work with the Custodial Management team to instruct and direct employees to comply with the department policies, procedures and standards of performance.
Identify training needs for the custodial team.
Control labor costs by effectively scheduling 03 contractors to meet the department's budgetary goals.
Communicate BPS track and field schedule, the College's collegiate events, and work assignments to direct reports and 03 event staff.
Work closely with RCC Athletics to ensure scheduled NJCAA athletic programs, practices, games, are set up appropriately and timely.
Ensure budgetary responsibilities are adhered to and participate in the College's strategic planning process.
Oversee and assist in set-up and breakdowns of equipment for conferences, track & field meets and other athletic and non-athletic events at the RLTAC and the campus as required.
Assist with running scheduled events such as supervising setting up and breaking down hurdles, raking long jump pit, retrieving shot puts and starting blocks.
Monitor access to certain areas within the RLTAC including directing buses to parking lots as assigned.
Assist with facilitating accommodations for the high school and collegiate track meets.
Be an advocate for the College; promote awareness of the campus and RLTAC events with the community and external entities.
Monitor weight room, cardiovascular room equipment needs; relay necessary repairs to RLTAC Manager.
Evaluate 03 contractors and part-time employees for periodic evaluations.
Monitor and approve time cards for payroll.
Contribute to the RLTAC injury prevention and management program by applying any and all learned sports medicine training and experience.
Oversee all tasks necessary to ensure the successful operation of the RLTAC facility and all scheduled programs and events.
Provide coverage for crowd control during the indoor track & field season as well as other campus events as required.
Bachelor's degree in appropriate area.
A minimum of four years' experience supervising or managing custodial staff, A minimum of two years supervisory skills
Experience directly related to the operation of an athletic or recreational track facility a plus.
Familiar with MIAA, NJCAA and NCAA rules and regulation a plus
Planning and budgeting knowledge in non-profit or public sector.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel; proficient computer skills
Demonstrated exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills.
Familiarity with higher educational administration and campus organizational structure.
Proficiency in oral and written communication.
Prior substantial experience working with diverse, urban communities.
