The Carpenter/Painter will work in the Facilities department at Roxbury Community College.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Facilities Manager
Read and comprehend written instructions and safety regulations.
Perform extensive interior painting projects in a timely manner.
Patch and paint any walls that have chips or scrapes.
Must be able to take direction well and also work independently.
Perform general handy-man services such as replacing ceiling tiles, hanging paintings, etc.
Performs related work such as framing pictures, making window and door screens, drilling holes in signs, ordering materials and supplies and cleaning, and sharpening and tempering various tools and equipment.
Performs structural repair, alteration or improvement work such as lowering ceilings and paneling rooms; preparing surfaces for plaster or cement work; studding, wiring and plastering walls and cracks in floors or around windows taping joints on sheetrock; and pre-cementing and/or replacing Formica tops.
Maintains buildings and related structures applying carpentry techniques and using carpentry tools to construct, alter, repair, and/or install walls, stairs, floors, ceilings, windows, doors, roofs, gutters, locks, air conditioners, mail slots, handicapped chair rails and ramps, shelving, etc.
High School grad or equivalent.
Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials expected of an incumbent with between three and five years of experience.
Ability to maintain written records and read and understand work orders and written warning labels. Must be able to measure ingredients by volume to mix paints, thinners, etc.
Physical ability to manipulate painting tools and to walk, climb, bend, stoop and push.
ANTICIPATED HOURS AND DAYS OF WORK:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Some weekend overtime work may be required.
ANNUALIZED SALARY RATE:
The salary is determined according to the guidelines and salary structure of the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.
