What distresses me most about the election of Scott Brown is his use, albeit adroit, of a truck and barn-coat as a disguise to try to portray himself as one of the financially struggling common people who therefore knows best how to improve our economic and social situation. In reality his ideas and policies are the opposite.
Hs contention that allowing all Americans health insurance raises our taxes and increases our country’s debt is deceptive. The truth is that reform lowers costs and reduces the deficit which Republican foolishness skyrocketed.
So fallacious and really cruel is the idea that because we have most Masschusetts residents insured we shouldn’t work together for the care of the sick and suffering in the rest of the nation. Are we that selfish? Obstructionism and negativism are antisocial and impoverish the communities in which average human beings live.
Benefiting from Brown’s beliefs are the non-caring and profit-driven insurance companies whose stock increased with his election and whose executives‚ pay and bonuses will continue obscenely to mushroom. Who pays for that? We regular citizens do.
Eliminating taxes on the wealthy and checks on Wall Street’s excesses disconnects Brown from the ordinary populace. His thoughts favor the rich. He is also far from a true conservative. What in our founding and constitution prevents us from positively promoting the values of justice and liberty for all?
Advocating torture is inhuman and barbaric. Brown representing us is a travesty and embarrassment. A slick and smooth truck and talk cannot camouflage.
Homeowners and businesses are receiving tax increases this year in Springfield and they are putting more of a burden on many people here.
Most mom-and-pop businesses are already struggling to survive in a strapped economy. This type of action will force many homeowners into foreclosure and loss of businesses. Many people have already moved out of the city.
We elect our city officials to carry out the wishes of the people, but instead they are carrying out their own. This tax hike was nothing more than a slap in the taxpayers’ faces. It is time for the people of Springfield ßto stand up and speak out against these outrageous decisions that are being made by our elected officials.
